Dizziness
In Chinese medicine, dizziness and vertigo are symptoms that can result from an excess or deficiency of certain substances in the head. Excess patterns are associated with an overabundance of yang, wind, phlegm, or qi and blood, which can hinder the normal flow of yin, yang, qi, and blood in the head. Deficiency patterns occur when there is not enough yin, blood, qi, essence, or yang reaching the head, either because there is not enough of these substances or because they are unable to reach the head. These imbalances can cause symptoms such as lightheadedness, unsteadiness, spatial disorientation, and a sensation of spinning or movement in the surroundings. Vertigo is a more severe form of dizziness that is often accompanied by nausea and vomiting, and tinnitus.
