Anorectal Abscess

An anorectal abscess is a collection of pus in the tissues around the anus and rectum. In Chinese medicine, this condition is caused by a concentration of toxicity-heat or damp-heat in the lower digestive tract. Acute abscesses typically resolve on their own within a week or two, but they may recur. Chronic abscesses may persist for weeks or months, sometimes leading to the formation of a fistula. Chinese medical treatment can be effective in both acute and chronic cases, but surgery may be necessary in resistant or unresponsive cases.
